a healthy blend...

So I was reading a friends blog here and he was talking about how right it felt to have someone else leading worship with him in a given "corporate worship environment". It just got me thinking about how amazing it is to have so much leadership in this area within our church. As a worship leader I have long felt this "uneasiness" regarding worship leading when it comes to one person in the spotlight. That uneasiness is not because I feel it is bad or wrong (leadership is necessary) just because it seems it should be more community oriented. I believe it is impossible for me (or any one person) to have the life experience, relational ability, or giftedness to lead each person in our community more specifically than anyone else in any given moment. We all can lead differently and probably have our own consistent ways of going about it. I am willing to bet communities benefit from a fresh perspective on things. It's also good to help keep pride from jumping up if there is more than one person leading on a consistent basis.

I couldn't imagine our "corporate worship" without any of the folks that are around right now. Each person brings so much to what we do and their hearts for seeing our Church connect with God in those moments are beautiful.

just some thoughts... any others?

your community model of leading is so beautiful and desirable...thanks for your leadership model to me...

Ashdown called it "a community model of leading". I like that. And I really like what the name represents.

So, here's a grenade ... do you think Visio Dei would be healthier if the preaching followed the same model? For all the reasons you mentioned for "worship" leading, is it healthy to have the same person preaching nearly every time?

(I'm not bucking for the job, just following the thoughts ...)

Isn't that the eventual goal?

I don't know when you decide that it is time to bring along someone else to share the load, but I'd guess you do it a long time before you "need" a second teacher.

I, too, am not bucking for the job, at least not right now, but I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought about it.

Yo Kaelius... I absolutely believe it is a healthy model to allow for others to offer their gift of teaching. As Shannon said it is part of our vision to have that happen and I look forward to the day when that is a reality. Not because Jeff does a bad job but like you said for the reasons i mentioned above.

a couple thoughts...
1) It is a hard transition because many are used to this idea of 1 or 2 people leading and everyone else following so this is a whole paradigmn change for many. We have elected to paint a picture of the future and move slowly to make sure those who dont completely "get it" can keep up without being terribly frustrated.

2) right now our home groups serve as a place for those teachers to become more comfortable - the thought of getting up in front of 160 - 200 people is a bit overwhelming for most. Maybe it is time to start pushing for more??? (good point Shannon)

I also believe both of you would be great for our community to hear from. For different reason on each of you but I know I would be waiting to hear what you had to say...

As far as the bucking goes... I would love to see a little more bucking from some folks in our community... History shows some pretty big Kingdom movements when folks started bucking... our entire structure is set up to allow for more room to buck... buck away...

Peace
